Birds of a feather

Crushing on feathers and neutrals right now!!!  Luuuuuv.

And if you throw in a few sequins...I just can't stand it!!!

Always look the part

News of the day:  Kanye West has a new stylist!!

Happens all the time in Hollywood right??!  Not exactly...so the story goes something like this...  Mr. West was doing a little shopping at Barneys and noticed a fellow shopper's style.  This young shopper happened to be Cassius Clay, a 19 year-old Yale student.  After a brief and I'm sure fascinating conversation, the two exchanged information.  Long story short...Mr. Clay is now Mr. West's new stylist and creative consigliere.  Amazing!!!  I love stories like this!

So my friends...what can we take away from this little story?

I'm always saying you never know who you're going to meet...at the gas station, in line for Starbucks, shopping at Barneys, so MAKE SURE you look good.  No, you don't have to be dressed to the nines but make sure you're representin'.  Hair brushed, (teeth brushed!) a little gloss, cute shoes.  Looking good is part of being prepared...you never know when opportunity will strike and you want to be prepared when it does...because for those paying attention...it always does!

Heading to Barneys now...

Chanel was a leo

Photos: COCO - Chanel News

Coco Chanel's apartment in Paris was filled with detail and symbolism.  Wheat, a symbol of prosperity, could be found in every room.  She loved Chinese screens and used them in fabulously fun, creative ways.  Chanel was born under the sign of Leo and had sculptures of lions scattered throughout her apartment.

I've always said that clothes are an expression of who we are.  They are an opportunity to express on the outside who and what we are on the inside.  The same can be said for our living spaces.  While clothes can be changed daily (and advisably so!) or even several times a day ...our living spaces might be more of an expression of our inner core...the ideas and beliefs we hold most dear...furniture and paint being changed less often...or at least with a bit more effort.

What does your space say about you?

Peep-toe passion

Photos:  Alexander McQueen
I'm helping a friend style her wedding and found these lovelies!!  Heart peep-toe heels...super fabulous for a pop of color for a girl's wedding ensemble...plus who doesn't love the heart peep-toe for an added touch of romance on that special day.

Of course I'd say any day is special when a girl's got these on her feet.  Get 'em here.

Seeing stars

Photos: Gillian Robin Christie
My mom came to visit recently and I got to play tourist.  One evening we found our way to Griffith Observatory.  Though I only live 0.8 miles away it was also my first time visiting...sad but true...I have no excuse.  So many things to do in this great city!!

Space and the great beyond are of interest to me, but my mom LOVES the stars, the planets, science fiction (she might kill me for writing this)....she would be an astronaut in an instant.  Richard Branson if you're reading this...and you're offering a free ride in your spaceship anytime soon, please give my mom a call.  Her name is Phyllis.

Imagine this fashionista's surprise when I turned the corner and found The Cosmic Connection exhibit, a 150 foot timeline of the universe "whimsically composed of celestial-themed jewelry."  Absolutely fun and so beautiful!!

I've always said there is a connection between fashion and every interest and industry.  This is a perfect example...fashion can be found anywhere...even among the stars.

Orange you fabulous

Photo: Sartorialist

Without a doubt orange is my favorite color.  In fact, stay tuned for future post with ALL the wonderful orange trinkets and furniture in my apartment.  Really....if it's orange I love it!  Orange is a warm, happy color.  Paired with grey it is sophisticated and fabulous.  More orange-liousness soon my lovelies.

Gloss girl goes red

Everyone who knows me knows that I've never met a lip gloss I didn't like...particularly a nude gloss.  Shiny lips are happy lips.  What people might not know is I have a secret lipstick envy...I have always wanted to wear red lipstick.  Big bold red lipstick!

The general consensus among beauty experts is that EVERYONE can wear red...as long as it's the right shade.  But oh...thus the dilemma begins...how to find the right shade??  Well, I think I've found one...Strawberry by Arbonne...my favorite good for you and good for your skin beauty brand.  It's fabulously luscious and luckily the perfect shade for moi.

As you can tell by my love of nude gloss, I've played it relatively safe in the beauty department.  But no more...today launches my own little 30 day challenge.  Gloss girl goes red for 30 days!

Here are some tips from Poppy King founder of Lipstick Queen on wearing red lipstick for the newly recruited like myself:
1. minimal eye make up
2. apply the lipstick before your eye makeup so that you know when enough eye makeup is enough with red
3. minimize the jewelry, let the lips be a statement

Stay tuned..pics soon!!  Mmmwah!!

Sarah Jessica Parker in ELLE

Photos: Tom Munro for ELLE
Not exactly sure when my love affair with SJP started....probably somewhere between season one and two of Sex and the City.  Regardless, she is awesome.  I know...many disagree...and we will just agree to disagree.  Just one girl's opinion here but I think SJP inspired many women in America (including yours truly) to take more risks in their everyday fashion.  Does this fabulous skirt go with those even more fabulous shoes?  Not sure...why not try it and see.  Will fashion "errors" happen along the way...probably but who cares.  Be creative.  Have fun with clothes.  Be inspired.

Check out the January ELLE for more inspiration from Sarah Jessica Parker on December 15.
